When did Lindbergh go from American hero to fascis...
Author Last Post
Lindbergh's accomplishments had nothing to do with his political views. Lindbergh gained fame for being the first to make a solo, non-stop flight from New York to Paris; he gained sympathy because his baby son was kidnaped and killed. Politically, he was probably always a fascist.

He was a non - Interventionist (a policy which ultimately resulted in Franco winning the Spanish Civil War), fond of the Germans, hated Communists, against the US aiding France and England against Germany (as was Joseph P. Kennedy) and his attitude ultimately resulted in FDR saying about him: "... I am absolutely convinced that Lindbergh is a Nazi."
My son who's taking AP American History this year texted me a picture of a political cartoon in the history textbook depicting Charles Lindbergh as an "America First" fascist. I then sent him a link to the Woody Guthrie song (https://woodyguthrie.org/Lyrics/Mister_Charlie_Lindburgh.htm) on Lindbergh that reflects this view. I've been discussing this today with colleagues of various ages and getting many different responses:

1. Who's Lindbergh? (millennial)

2. I thought he was an American hero (Gen Xers)

3. Yea, he was a total fascist (woke American History buffs)

Curious as to when the hero to fascist shift occurred?
